Great Northern Winter Summit
I returned to Great Northern with 3 friends in March, coming in from the north side this time. We made a basecamp, and then did a really long ridge traverse, successfully summiting and then continuing on and descending a different route to basecamp. It was an incredible trip.
Great Northern Scouting Trip
I had been searching for a mountain to do a winter mountaineering trip with Explore for a long time. I found Great Northern and then I drove down from Alberta with the Junior Interns (Hannah, Jeremy, Nathan, & Mandy) and we met some of the Bighorn staff (Zach, Luke, & Reuben) to do a scouting trip of the mountain. We didn't summit, because we chose a more difficult route for training purposes and ran out of time, but it was an excellent trip.
Mount Sir Douglas Attempt
Instead of going to the Columbia Icefields as I should have, I decided to try to do a trip into Kananaskis to climb Mount Sir Douglas, one of the 54 11,000ers of the Canadian Rockies. It was probably the worst mountaineering trip I've ever done...
Brown Team Backpacking Trip
To start off "Fall Skills" we all went out and did a 5-day backpacking trip on the Stateline Trail with our teams. This was our first major bonding time and Brown team had a great time and really started developing a strong team spirit and identity. Let the sun shine in! (We sang a lot on our trip)
Rock Climbing at Heart Creek
I got to go out for a day of climbing some rockies limestone at Heart Creek, near Canmore, AB.
