Rock Climbing Specialization - October 5, 2003
I just had one of the awesomest weeks ever, rock climbing every day. I
climbed a route that was 5.10b for the last 15 feet without falling, and
then the same day I climbed a 5.11 and got to the top finally after falling
at least six times. I rubbed a layer of skin off the tips of all my fingers
doing the 5.11 cuz the second half after a nasty crack was tiny little
finger crimper holds. Another day I did a long 5.10b called "Night Flyer",
falling three times, and then twice the second try. It was insane. Another
nasty crack that was diaganol. Got to practice a lot of crack climbing
technique which is hard and painful but cool. There was an awesome climb
with huge overhangs called "room with a view" that was only 5.8, but
challenging cuz of the overhangs. Then the last day we hiked into a place
called Chimney Rock, in Idaho. The rock sticks up about 400 feet. We
climbed to the top doing three pitches along a real easy 5.3 route. But
when you're a couple hundred feet up, it's a whole different story. It was
really fun and took all day to get us all up and then down. We hung out at
the top a long time waiting for others. It was an amazing view.
